The three standard rulings, to the tenth of a millimetre
College ruled is 7.1 mm, wide ruled is 8.7 mm and narrow ruled is 6.35 mm — the same measurements the stationery industry uses, so a sheet from this lined paper printable sits inside a shop-bought notebook without the lines fighting each other. Margin line, header and paper size on your terms
Add the classic red margin line at the standard 1-1/4 inch from the left edge, mirror it on the right, or leave it off entirely. Put a name-and-date rule at the top for handing sheets out to a class, type a subject title so a stack of pages stays identifiable, and switch between A4, Letter, A5 and Legal without the ruling changing size. Decide on the margin line
Keep the red line on the left for annotations and teacher marks, mirror it on both sides for a symmetric layout, or turn it off for clean writing paper with nothing but rules.
The offset is measured from the paper edge, so it matches shop-bought pads exactly.

Set paper size, colour and header
Pick A4 or Letter to match your printer tray, lighten the lines so your handwriting dominates, and switch on the name-and-date row if the sheets are going out to a class.
Widen the page margin to about 20 mm if the pages will be hole-punched for a ring binder.

Download and print at 100%
Export the PDF and choose Actual size or 100% scale in the print dialog rather than Fit to page. Measure the gap across ten lines with a ruler to confirm the ruling came out at true size.

Is this lined paper printable free?
Yes, completely. There is no account, no email wall, no watermark and no limit on how many sheets you generate or print.
What is the difference between college ruled and wide ruled?
College ruled has 7.1 mm between lines and is the standard for secondary school, university and most adult note-taking. Wide ruled has 8.7 mm and gives younger writers, or anyone with large handwriting, more room in each line. Narrow ruled sits at 6.35 mm and fits the most lines on a page.
How do I print lined paper at the exact size?
Download the PDF instead of printing the web page, then set Scale to Actual size or 100% in the print dialog rather than Fit to page. Check that the printer paper size matches your sheet, print one page and measure ten line gaps: on college ruling that should be 71 mm.
Can I get A4 lined paper rather than US Letter?
Yes. A4, US Letter, A5 and US Legal are all available in portrait or landscape, and the line spacing stays identical across sizes — only the number of lines per page changes.
Where should the red margin line sit?
The North American standard is 1-1/4 inch, or 31.75 mm, from the left edge of the sheet, and that is the default here. You can move it anywhere between 12 mm and 45 mm, mirror it on the right-hand side, or remove it.
Can I set my own line spacing?
Yes. Choose the custom ruling and the slider gives you anything from 5 mm to 16 mm in 0.05 mm steps, which covers European exercise-book rulings, large-print writing paper and everything between the North American standards.
Do you have lined paper for children learning to write?
Yes — switch the paper type to handwriting and you get three-line guides with a dashed midline and an adjustable letter height, which is what early writers need rather than single ruled lines.
Can I print a whole pad at once?
Yes. Raise the page count before downloading and one PDF will contain up to twenty identical sheets, which is much faster than repeating the print dialog page by page.
Is my typed header title sent anywhere?
No. The generator runs entirely in your browser, so the title you type and the sheet you build are never uploaded to a server or stored anywhere.
Can I use these sheets at school or at work?
Yes — print and photocopy them freely for your pupils, your colleagues and yourself. Reselling the generated PDFs, or packaging them into printable products for commercial resale, is not permitted.
